I really loved the lilac bell gnome that Suez knitted and it inspired me.. Thanks Suez! And I can't wait till she joins in with the fun at our home.

We love Wool Crafts

Today we visited the Stellenbosch WALDORF School and came home armed with some imported fleece.

Kalla lay on the couch and felted a string for Tigger [our new kitty] and Oliver to play with.



Thomas needle felted a ball for Tigger while she waited on the couch.

And I had a blast on the spinning wheel!

Learning through Imitation

On the right is the leaf pocket gnome that I felted for Thomas and gave to him for advent. Next to it is the companion he made for it.

He is so supple, and uses he feet to hold his needle felting sponge in place.

A favourite day!

I had a wonderful day today. One of my favourite HS families visited me and within 1 hr we were sharing skills and enjoying each other. I taught Shioban how to weave and she created the stunning bag and Janet learnt how to needle felt [Woooo Hoooo another needle felter!] And made a sweet fairy. Kenneth is an amazing dad and helped the girls with their weaving, I think he enjoyed the weaving more than the girls. I'm now on the look out for a loom for Kenneth, erm I meant to say the family. LOL

Needle Felted Houdini Hippo

We are reading Houdini's Adventure. He was the young hippo bull who escaped from Rondevlei Nature reserve and went walkabout in the residential suburb of Zeekoevlei. Written by Nikki Berry who was part of the crew who eventually caught him and relocated him. It is a really great read and though they say "will intrigue all children from ages of 6-12" I find myself really enjoying it.

The animals [especially the birds] are illustrated well and the author has captured their personality well.

We also bought a children's bird of South Africa book, so we are learning all the birds at the same time. [my first book of Southern African Birds - SASOL - ISBN 978 1 77007 2831]




Yes I know, my picture is crappy again...

But this time I think it is my felting, I'm not sure why Houdini is so fluffy?

Needle Felted Folk

I did a one day course on needle felting with Master felter Karen Platte. Karen makes it all look so easy. She is a highly talented and creative waldorf mama and it was wonderful to be in her studio for a day. The piles and piles of dyed fleece is mind blowing.

Ok enough about her, look what I made.

2 little neck pouches [one is a leaf and the other is an acorn] with removable babies and the sweet mama doll that Angelina helped me make.

Sorry for the fuzzy pictures, but it is felt. LOL.
